Day 1 — Face It
When Bad News Calls
“Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it are the sources of life.”
Today's Teaching
The world often feels full of scary headlines, doesn't it? Natural disasters, conflicts, things going wrong in our communities. It's natural to want to know what's happening. We want to be informed, to understand the dangers. But sometimes, knowing turns into a constant checking, a feeling that if we stop watching, we might miss something important. This can leave us feeling anxious and overwhelmed. We might feel like we're always waiting for the next piece of bad news, hoping it will bring clarity or relief, but it often just brings more worry. It's like being on a treadmill that never stops.
Putting It Into Practice
Notice how you feel when you check the news. Are you seeking understanding, or just more worry? Recognize the pull to keep watching, even when it’s not helpful.
Today's Challenge
Today, for every news update you check, take two minutes to intentionally do something else, like looking out a window or listening to a bird. Don't check again until those two minutes are up.
Think About It
What feeling is driving me to check the news right now?
Let's Pray
Dear God, help me see the truth about my news consumption. Show me when I am driven by fear or anxiety, rather than by a genuine need to understand. Help me guard my heart from constant worry and find my peace in You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Today's Takeaway
Bad news often feeds fear, not wisdom.
