Following the Good Shepherd Who Carried Our Burdens
By Joseph Cutler

Jesus is our perfect example and our Shepherd who carried our sins, rescuing us and watching over our souls.
It's a natural thing for us to follow someone we trust, isn't it? Maybe it's a friend who knows a shortcut, or a teacher showing us how to do something new. We look to them to lead the way, especially when we're unsure or facing a difficult path.
The Apostle Peter, in a letter he wrote a long time ago, points us to the best leader of all: Jesus. He tells us that Jesus showed us how to live, like leaving footprints for us to follow. But Jesus did so much more than just set an example.
Think about what Peter says in 1 Peter 2:21-25. He tells us that Jesus suffered for us, and in that suffering, He was perfect. He didn't do anything wrong. He didn't tell lies. When people were mean to Him, He didn't say mean things back. When He was hurting, He didn't threaten to get even. Instead, He trusted God, His Father, who always does what is right and fair.
This is a powerful picture, isn't it? Jesus shows us how to live with patience and trust, even when things are really hard. He gave us a pattern for living a good life, a life that pleases God.
But Peter doesn't stop there. He tells us something even more amazing. Jesus did something for us that we could never, ever do for ourselves. He carried our sins – all the wrong things we think, say, and do – in His own body when He died on the cross. His death wasn't just an example; it was a rescue mission. It was so we could stop living in ways that hurt us and God, and start living in ways that are good and right.
Peter uses a picture from an old Bible book, Isaiah, and talks about healing through Jesus' wounds. This healing is a big deal. It's about being set free from the power of sin, being made right with God, and having a new life. It's about our souls being made whole again, not just about physical sickness, though God certainly can heal that too.
Before Jesus, Peter says we were like sheep that had wandered off. Imagine a sheep all alone, lost and confused. That was us. But then, Peter tells us the wonderful news: we have turned back to Jesus, our Shepherd. He's not just our leader; He's our Guardian. He watches over us and cares for our very souls. He brings us back home.
This passage really reminds us that we have a Shepherd who doesn't just show us the way; He makes the way. He took on our biggest problem – our sin – and gave us a chance for a new life. And now, He continues to watch over us.
Maybe you needed to hear this today. Are you wandering like a lost sheep? Do you feel weighed down by past mistakes? Do you wonder if anyone truly cares for your soul?
Our Shepherd, Jesus, is always there, ready to welcome you back, to guide you, and to care for you. He carried your sins so you don't have to carry them anymore. He leads you into a life that is right and good, a life lived under His loving watch.
My Final Thought
Don't forget the incredible love of the Shepherd who carried your burdens so you could live free. Trust Him to lead you, care for you, and guide your soul.

God is infinitely greater than our finite comprehension, and embracing this mystery invites us into a dynamic, ever-unfolding relationship with Him rather than a static understanding.

God promises to hear you when you call upon Him, and He will answer you, showing you things you don't yet know. This means you have an open line of communication with God for all aspects of your life.

Life has seasons of 'red, yellow, and green lights' that are part of a greater, purposeful rhythm. Finding peace means trusting this rhythm and using each season constructively, especially the pauses.
