When Smart Things Make Us Feel Small

It's okay to not know everything and to learn at your own pace; God is patient with us, and we should be patient with ourselves.

It seems like every day, something new comes out that's supposed to make our lives easier. New phones, new apps, new ways to connect. And often, these things are amazing. They help us do things faster and sometimes even better. But I’ve noticed something else, too.

Sometimes, all this newness can make us feel a little… lost. You know, like everyone else understands it right away, but you're still trying to figure out where the 'on' button is. I recently thought, "I don't mind technology getting smarter, but I wish it would stop making me feel like I need tutoring." It's that feeling of being behind, of not quite keeping up.

And it's not just with gadgets. Life itself can feel this way sometimes. There are new ideas, new ways of doing things, new challenges. We might look around and see others sailing through, while we're still trying to find our sea legs. It can make us feel a bit small or even dumb, like we're the only one who doesn't get it.

But here's a truth I've held onto: God doesn't expect us to know everything, or to be perfect at everything right away. He meets us right where we are. Think about the disciples, Jesus's first followers. They often misunderstood Him. They made mistakes. They needed a lot of teaching and guidance. But Jesus was always patient. He taught them slowly, kindly, and kept inviting them to learn more.

So, whether it's a new piece of technology or a new season of life, remember that it's okay to not know. It's okay to learn slowly. It's okay to ask for help. We are all on a journey, and part of that journey is growing and understanding things a little better each day. God is patient with us, and we can be patient with ourselves too.

What in your life is making you feel like you need tutoring right now? Who can you ask for help? How can you show yourself kindness in the learning process?

My Final Thought

Don't let the smartness of the world make you feel small. You are perfectly placed to learn and grow, one step at a time, with God by your side.
