When You Need Healing
By Joseph Cutler

Your healing is not found in a formula. Your hope is found in Jesus.
If you need healing today, I want you to know where I believe we should begin: with God's Word.
Not with fear.
Not with what somebody else says happened to them.
Not by pretending the pain isn't real.
And not by making promises that God Himself hasn't made.
Let's begin with what God has actually said.
There are times when sickness can make everything else seem small. Suddenly, the things that concerned us yesterday don't seem nearly as important. A doctor's report, a change in our health, ongoing pain, or watching someone we love suffer can bring questions we never expected to ask.
And sometimes fear begins talking louder than faith.
That's when I believe we need to come back to the Word of God.
Isaiah wrote about the coming Messiah:
"Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows…" — Isaiah 53:4
And just a few verses later:
"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." — Isaiah 53:6
Peter later looked back at what Jesus accomplished at the cross and wrote:
"…by whose stripes ye were healed." — 1 Peter 2:24
I don't want to rush past those Scriptures.
Jesus is at the center of our hope.
Our faith isn't in a formula. It isn't in saying exactly the right words. It isn't in pretending we aren't hurting.
Our faith is in Jesus.
The Bible gives us every reason to bring our need for healing to God.
James tells believers who are sick to call for the elders of the church and let them pray over them. James also reminds us:
"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." — James 5:16
So pray.
Ask others to pray.
Believe God.
Stay in His Word.
And at the same time, don't be afraid to receive appropriate medical care and help. Trusting God and seeking appropriate care do not have to be enemies.
There is also something I want to say to the person who has prayed and hasn't seen the answer yet.
Don't let somebody make you believe that your continued sickness automatically means you don't have enough faith.
Keep trusting God.
Keep praying.
Keep believing His Word.
But place your confidence in Him, not in your ability to produce an outcome.
There are answers we may not understand on this side of eternity. But Scripture gives us a final picture of where God's redemption is taking His children.
A day is coming when:
"God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death…" — Revelation 21:4
No more death.
No more sorrow.
No more crying.
No more pain.
That's where this story ultimately ends for everyone who belongs to Christ.
Until then, we pray.
We trust.
We seek God.
We receive appropriate help.
We stand upon His Word.
And we remember that sickness does not get the final word.
Jesus does.
God's Word for Healing
Jesus, the suffering Servant, carried our griefs and sorrows and bore our sin.
David reminds his soul not to forget God's benefits, including forgiveness, healing, redemption, mercy, and renewal.
God's people cried to Him in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.
Peter connects Christ's suffering with our sin, righteousness, and healing.
Scripture specifically instructs believers to pray when someone is sick.
God's ultimate restoration includes a future where death, sorrow, crying, and pain are gone.
What I Want You to Remember
Your healing is not found in a formula. Your hope is found in Jesus.
Bring your sickness to Him.
Bring your fear to Him.
Bring the doctor's report to Him.
Bring the questions you can't answer to Him.
And don't stop trusting God simply because you don't yet understand what He is doing.
Make It Personal
Today I choose to bring my need before God instead of carrying it alone.
I will pray.
I will trust God's Word.
I will receive appropriate help.
I will not allow fear to become greater than my faith in God.
And while I may not understand everything happening right now, I choose to put my confidence in Jesus.
Let's Pray
Father, You know exactly what I am facing today.
You know my body, my pain, my fears, my questions, and everything I don't understand.
I bring my need for healing before You.
Thank You for Jesus. Thank You that I can come to You honestly and ask for Your help.
Give me strength when I am weak. Give me peace when fear tries to take over. Give wisdom to the doctors and people caring for me. Surround me with people who will pray and stand with me.
Lord, I ask You to touch my body and bring healing and restoration according to Your will.
While I wait, help me keep my eyes on You.
My confidence is not in my circumstances. My confidence is in Jesus.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
My Response
What do you need God to do in your life today?
Write it honestly.
You don't have to make it sound spiritual. Tell God what's really on your heart.
Add this response to My Devotional Journal.
My Final Thought
If you're facing sickness today, I don't want you to leave this Thought simply thinking about healing.
I want you thinking about Jesus.
Healing matters.
Your pain matters.
Your doctor's report matters.
Your prayers matter.
But underneath all of it is something even greater:
You belong to a God who knows you, sees you, hears you, and invites you to bring your need to Him.
So bring it.
Pray boldly.
Trust deeply.
Receive the help you need.
And whatever today looks like, keep holding on to Jesus.
Because sickness doesn't get to write the final chapter.
Jesus does.

Life has seasons of 'red, yellow, and green lights' that are part of a greater, purposeful rhythm. Finding peace means trusting this rhythm and using each season constructively, especially the pauses.
