The welcome is quiet. After the opening song finishes, soft music plays underneath the rest of the Gathering, and it ends with the closing song.

You are Welcome Here
This is what the Lord says: 'Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they understand and know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,' declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 9:23-24
This old passage from the book of Jeremiah tells us something important. God says, don’t brag about how smart you are, or how strong you are, or how much money you have. The one thing worth bragging about is knowing God. Not just knowing about Him, but truly understanding and having a relationship with Him. Because when you know Him, you see His kindness, fairness, and goodness in the world, and that’s what He truly loves.
Something to Think About
What does knowing God really mean to you?
Saving privately keeps it in your account where only you can read it. Sending it shares it with Joseph only. Keeping it unsent stores nothing anywhere but this device.
So we've been talking about what it means to really know God, not just know about Him. It's easy to get caught up in the facts, the information, the right words. But true connection, the kind that changes everything, happens in a different space. It’s not about how smart you are, or how much scripture you can quote, or even how often you come to a service. It's simpler, and yet, often harder, than all of that. It's about being known, and knowing in return.
Maybe you’re here today, and you've been in church for years, but still feel like God is a concept more than a companion. Maybe you've always felt a pressure to perform, to be 'good enough,' and that's kept you from truly opening up. Maybe you've tried before to connect, but it felt awkward or forced, and you just gave up. Perhaps you’re tired of religion, but you still sense there's something more out there, something real. Or maybe, just maybe, deep down, you’ve always wanted a personal relationship with God, but you just never knew how to start, or if you were even allowed to. You’re not alone in any of those feelings.
If any of what we've talked about today resonates with you—this longing for a real connection, a desire to truly know God, not just know about Him—then I want to invite you to take a quiet step. There’s no perfect way to do this. No magic words. It’s simply about opening your heart, just a little. It’s about letting go of what you think you should be, and just being honest about where you are. God isn’t looking for your performance; He's looking for your heart. He already knows everything about you, and He still loves you, and He wants to be known by you. This is an invitation to begin or deepen that journey, right where you are.
Let's pray together: God, I admit that sometimes I’ve known more about you than I’ve actually known you. I’ve focused on the rules, or the information, or what I think I should be. But right now, I just want to be honest with you. If you are real, and if you truly want to know me, and for me to know you, then I open my heart. Help me to let go of my expectations, my fears, and my need to understand everything. I want to experience your presence, your kindness, and your love in a real, personal way. I want a true connection. Amen.
Let's just sit for a moment. No need to rush. Just breathe. Let that prayer settle. Allow yourself to be still in this space, knowing that God is here, quietly with you.
As we continue our time together, we’re going to respond to this invitation. Let the words and music of this next song be a way for you to connect, to simply be present, and to lean into knowing God a little more today.
Take as long as you like. When you're ready, you can tell me where you are.
God, I want to know You. Not just know facts about You, but really know You. Help me to open my heart. Help me to see You in my life. Amen.
Remember, knowing God isn't about earning points or being perfect. It's about relationship. It’s about honestly seeking Him and letting Him meet you right where you are. It's a journey, not a destination. And He's with you every step of the way. So, keep seeking. Keep listening. Keep opening your heart. That's what this is all about. That’s what 'church' truly is – a connection with God, available to everyone, always. And it’s real. It’s life-changing. And it's for you.
