Does Time Truly Make Everything Better?

We've all heard it, perhaps even said it ourselves: 'Time heals all wounds.' It sounds comforting, doesn't it?

When we're hurting, whether from a deep sadness, a broken heart, or a heavy loss, it's natural to hope for relief. And often, as the days turn into weeks and months, the sharp edge of our pain does seem to lessen. We might find ourselves laughing again, enjoying simple things, and not thinking about the hurt quite as constantly. In that way, time can definitely help us adjust and learn to live with difficult things. It helps us put one foot in front of the other. But healing, true healing, is a bit more than just the passage of time. Sometimes, time alone can simply bury the pain deeper, like sweeping dust under a rug. It might not be gone; it might just be out of sight for a while. We know that real healing often needs more than just the clock ticking forward. It needs intentional choices, sometimes forgiveness, and often, it needs help from God and from other people.

What Does God Say?

Psalm 34:18

“The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he delivers those who are discouraged.”

This verse tells us that God is close to people who feel brokenhearted and those who are crushed in spirit. He is there for us when we hurt.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4

“Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”

God is called the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. He comforts us in our troubles so we can then comfort others with the same comfort we received.

Philippians 4:6-7

“Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

Instead of worrying, we can tell God all our needs and thanks. When we do, His peace, which is beyond our understanding, will guard our hearts and minds.

So, Is It True?

Missing an important biblical truth

While time can soften pain and help us adjust, it doesn't automatically heal every wound. True healing often involves inviting God into our hurt and actively seeking His comfort, peace, and wisdom.

The Takeaway

God heals all wounds, in His time and in His way.

We've heard what people say. But what does God say?
