When Is Timeliness Important?

Have you ever started something a little later than you planned, maybe a project or even an apology? We often tell ourselves, "Better late than never."

This saying sounds like a good idea most of the time, doesn't it? It means that even if something doesn't happen exactly when we wanted it to, it's still good if it happens eventually. And often, that's absolutely true! It's good to finish that task, or say sorry, or learn that lesson, even if it took a while. But sometimes, waiting too long can change things. There are moments when the right time is really important. Think about catching a train, or saying an encouraging word to someone right when they need it most. If you miss that moment, the chance might be gone, or the impact won't be quite the same. It's not about being perfect, but it's about understanding that God often has a perfect time for things. He wants us to be wise about our chances. So, while it's almost always good to eventually do the right thing, let's also ask God to help us see when there's a special 'now' for something. We don't want to miss out on the best He has for us or for others because we waited too long.

What Does God Say?

Ecclesiastes 3:1

“For everything there is an appointed time, and an appropriate time for every activity on earth:”

This verse tells us there is a right time for everything on earth, showing that timing matters to God.

2 Corinthians 6:2

“For he says, “ I heard you at the acceptable time, and in the day of salvation I helped you .” Look, now is the acceptable time ; look, now is the day of salvation !”

God reminds us that 'now' is the time to receive His help and salvation, encouraging us not to delay important spiritual steps.

Proverbs 27:1

“Do not boast about tomorrow; for you do not know what a day may bring forth.”

This teaches us not to boast about tomorrow, because we don't know what will happen; it's wise to act in the present.

So, Is It True?

Partially true

While doing something good later is almost always better than never doing it, the Bible also highlights that timing can be very important. Some opportunities have a best or only window.

The Takeaway

Don't delay when God shows you the right time.

We've heard what people say. But what does God say?
