Who Decides What Gets Your Attention?

A phone can be quiet for an hour, then light up just as someone begins telling you something that matters. In that moment, a small choice appears: keep listening or check the screen. That choice says more about who is in control than how new or powerful our phone is. Technology helps us do many good things. We can learn a skill, find our way, finish work, or reach someone we love. The trouble starts when every alert feels like an order. We stop choosing when to use the tool and begin letting the tool choose for us. An alert tells us something is available. It does not tell us that something is important. God has given us people to love and work worth doing. Those things deserve attention that is not always on call for the next sound or flash. Sometimes the wisest use of a phone is to let it wait. We do not have to reject technology to take back that choice. We can enjoy what it offers without giving it first place. A message can remain unread while we give our full attention to the person in front of us.

My Final Thought

The next time your phone asks for your attention, notice who already has it.
