When I Have No Confidence in Myself
The Challenge: It's hard to move forward when I don't believe in my own abilities.
Joseph's Thought
Do you ever feel like you're just not good enough? Like you're going to fail, or you don't have what it takes? We all have those moments when our confidence runs low. It can feel like a heavy blanket, making it hard to even start simple tasks, let alone face bigger challenges. This isn't about pride or thinking we're better than others. It's about a deep, quiet struggle within ourselves, a feeling that we lack the strength, wisdom, or courage to handle what's in front of us.
When we lose confidence in ourselves, it often feels like we're standing alone. We might compare ourselves to others and feel even worse. But here's something important to remember: God never asks us to rely solely on our own strength or wisdom. In fact, He often works through our weaknesses. He knows us completely, all our flaws and fears, and He still chooses to use us. The Bible teaches us that our true confidence shouldn't come from what we can do, but from who God is and what He can do through us. This isn't just a nice thought; it's a foundational truth that can change everything. It's about shifting our focus from our shaking hands to His steady hand. When we understand this, the burden of needing to be perfect or supremely capable starts to lift, and we find a different kind of strength, one that never runs out.
What Does God Say?
Philippians 4:13
“I am able to do all things through the one who strengthens me.”
This verse reminds us that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Our ability comes from Him, not just from ourselves.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
“But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.”
God tells us His power is made perfect in our weakness. When we are weak in ourselves, we are actually strong in Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all your ways, and he will make your paths straight.”
We are encouraged to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. He will make our paths straight, guiding us when we feel unsure.
Isaiah 41:10
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you! Don’t be frightened, for I am your God! I strengthen you— yes, I help you— yes, I uphold you with my victorious right hand!”
God promises not to leave us, but to strengthen and help us. He holds us up with His powerful hand, so we don't have to face things alone.
Today's Challenge
Today, choose one small task you've been putting off because of a lack of confidence, and complete it.
Take One Step
You don't have to solve everything today. Just focus on that one small task, trusting that God's strength is with you in that moment. That's your next right step. Completing it will build a small bridge of courage for tomorrow.
Think About It
If God's power is made perfect in my weakness, what might He be trying to show me or do through me when I feel least capable?
Today's Takeaway
Our true confidence isn't found in what we can do, but in what God can do through us.
Let's Pray
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You today feeling low on confidence. My own abilities seem small, and the challenges feel large. I sometimes doubt myself and fear failure. Please help me to remember that my strength doesn't have to come from me alone. Remind me that Your power is made perfect in my weakness, and that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Help me to trust in You completely, leaning on Your wisdom and Your mighty hand. Give me the courage to take the next step, knowing You are with me. Guide my thoughts and fill me with Your peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Whatever I'm facing, I can find God's wisdom for my next step.
