Just a Closer Walk With Thee
By Joseph Cutler ·
I thought about the old hymn “Just a Closer Walk With Thee.” It’s been sung for generations. Farmers sang it. Revival tents sang it. Hospital beds whispered it.
There is something in me that still wants to “achieve” my walk with God.
As if closeness were earned.
But a closer walk isn’t a performance. It’s a surrender.
The older I get, the more I realize the Christian life is not about acceleration — it’s about alignment.
Step by step.
Some days I feel strong.
Some days I feel weak.
But in both, the prayer is the same:
“Draw me nearer.”
Because proximity changes everything. When you are close to Him, fear shrinks. Ambition softens. Identity settles.
If all I gain in this life is a closer walk — I have gained everything.
