← Kindness Without Expectation

Day 1 — Face It

Who Do I Naturally Prioritize?

Luke 6:32

““If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.”

Today's Teaching

It's easy to be friendly to someone who can help us. We might go out of our way for a boss, a customer, or someone who could open a door for our future. There’s nothing wrong with being kind to people who can do good things for us. But Jesus himself asked a powerful question about this. He said, 'If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.' He was pointing out that our natural way is to favor those who can give us something back. It takes more to love and be kind when there’s no clear benefit for us.

Putting It Into Practice

Let's be honest about our own tendencies. Where do we put our efforts and kindness? We need to see this truth about ourselves before we can change.

Today's Challenge

Today, make a mental note of every person you interact with. Afterwards, think: 'Did I treat them differently based on whether they could do something for me?' Be honest, just for yourself.

Think About It

Am I more naturally kind to people who have power or influence?

Let's Pray

Dear God, help me to see my heart clearly today. Show me if I am holding back kindness from anyone, just because I don't see how they can help me. Open my eyes to Your truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today's Takeaway

Our natural kindness often comes with strings attached.
