You Don't Pay for Gifts. You Receive Them.
By Joseph Cutler

Let's learn to receive what Jesus has already done.
I think one of the hardest things for many of us to accept is something we can't earn.
We understand earning. Work hard. Do the job. Get paid. Perform well. Get rewarded. Do poorly. Face consequences.
That's how much of life works. So sometimes we bring that same mindset into our relationship with God.
But that's not the Gospel.
The Gospel tells us something that pride doesn't always like and guilt doesn't always know how to receive: You cannot earn salvation. And you don't have to.
Jesus has already done what you could never do for yourself. That's grace.
Grace means you stop trying to use your obedience as payment for God's love. That's a very different way to live.
You obey because you are loved. You serve because you've received grace. You grow because God has saved you. Not because you're desperately trying to convince Him to keep you.
I think some Christians spend years exhausted because they are still trying to pay for a gift. You don't pay for gifts. You receive them.
And when you really understand the value of the gift, gratitude begins changing how you live.
That's where we're going in this study. Not cheap grace. Not lazy Christianity. Real grace. Grace that saves us. Grace that humbles us. And grace that begins transforming us from the inside out.
